Project history: 3rd class cruisers, similar to Forbin class, were often classified as avisos. It was reported that neither ship reached 20kts speed by the reason of vibration.

Ship protection: Curved armour deck had a cofferdam above. There was a thin splinter deck over the machinery.

Modernizations: 1890s, all: - 4 x 5 - 37/20, 4 - 350 TT; + 6 x 1 - 47/40 M1885, 4 x 1 - 37/20 M1885

Naval service: No significant events.
