Project history: Large, but poorly armed cruiser. Possessed bad manoeuvrability (tactical diameter was 2000m!), too light construction and on trials (proceeding more than a year) never reached designed 23kts speed but suffered from strong vibration. Ship was wood sheated and coppered.

Ship protection: Armour deck was 55mm with 65mm slopes amidships, decreasing to 35mm with 55mm slopes near ship ends. Space between them and 25mm medium deck was divided into many small compartments, filled with coal or stores. The guns had 70mm shields and bases and 25mm ammunition tubes.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: No significant events.
