Project history: 1st rank screw frigates, 1853 design of S. Dupuy de Lôme. Had poor seakeeping abilities and low quality of construction. Wooden hull.

Modernizations: 1872, Imperatrice Eugénie: engine was removed.

Naval service: Ardente was decommissioned 1.10.1862 after major machinery failure.
