Project history: An iron-hulled cruiser, wood-sheathed and coppered, with a ram bow, overhanging stern and short forecastle. She was ship-rigged with two funnels between the fore- and mainmasts. There was a double bottom with eight watertight transverse bulkheads carried up to the main deck and a collision bulkhead in addition. The 194mm were on the upper deck with one under the forecastle and the rest in sponsons, while the 139mm were on the maindeck amidships. There were two boiler rooms and the engines appear to have given a good deal of trouble.

Modernizations: 1894: machinery was replaced by new HC and 12 cylindrical boilers

1895: + 11 x 1 - 47/40 M1885

Naval service: No significant events.
