Project history: Small cruiser Geier was interned at Honolulu 7.11.1914, captured by USN 6.4.1917, renamed Schurz in June 1917, commissioned in September 1917.

Naval service: Schurz sunk 21.6.1918 after collision with s/s Florida off North Carolina coast.
