Project history: Cutters of this class were intended for intercept rum runners during Prohibition. For this purpose they have appeared are of little use because of low speed.

Modernizations: 1941, all: + 2 DCR

1942 - 1943, all: + 2 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 4, 2 x 4 - 178 Mousetrap Mk 20 ASWRL

1943 - 1944, many: - 1 x 1 - 76/23; + 1 x 1 - 40/56 Mk 1.2, SO radar

1/1946: 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, 2 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 10, 2 x 4 - 178 Mousetrap Mk 20 ASWRL, 2 DCR

1960, all survived: were armed with 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3 only, presumably SPN-11 radar

Naval service: Antietam and Jackson were lost 14.9.1944 at Cape Gatteras during a storm.
