Aircraft facilities: Aircraft fuel stowage was 1 180 900 l. There was 1 heavy crane for handling seaplanes.

Project history: In 1941 Navy ordered some more seaplane tenders in standard C3-S type cargo hulls. They were purchased by Navy already after launching and converted while outfitted afloat. The aviation deck for seaplane maintenance was arranged aft from superstructure and raised one level over a cargo deck. The crane for aircraft handling was placed on stern. Cargo holds were arranged for storage of various aviation equipment and aviation fuel.

Seven ships of Kenneth Whiting class were built in modified C3-S-A1 type dry cargo carrier hulls.

Modernizations:  None.
