Project history: Repetition of pre-war design of "Ò" class, differed by additional stern TTs out of a pressure hull and 20mm AA MG. Bulkheads were welded. Submarines of 1940 Programme (except lead Ð311) had two bow outer TT displaced aft on 2.1m that has allowed to moderate their fin size and to moderate a hull length a little. It removed a lack revealed during service of early "Ò" class submarines when on cruising depth the submarine could be unmasked by the small surf formed at a flow by water of a massive bow TT bulb.

5 boats of 1940 Programme had fuel stowage increased to 215t at the expense of usage of ballast tanks to stow diesel oil which originally were riveted, later welded. Surface endurance with full surface displacement (1442t) had as a result increased to 11000(10)nm.

early 1950s, all survived: - 1 x 1 - 20/70

Naval service: Tempest was sunk 13.2.1942 by DCs of Italian torpedo boat Circe at Taranto. Thorn was sunk 6.8.1942 by DCs of Italian torpedo boat Pegaso in Mediterranean Sea. Traveller was lost (possibly, on a mine at Taranto) 8.12.1942. Trooper was sunk by a mine 10.10.1943 off Leros island. Turbulent was lost on a mine 14.3.1943 off Sardinia. Ð311 was lost 31.12.1942 on a mine. Truculent collided with Swedish tanker Divina, was salvaged two months later and broken up.
