Project history: Development of Shark class. 5 submarines were built under "Emergency war Programme", 13 under 1940 Programme, 15 under 1941, 12 under 1942 and 5 boats under 1943 Programme. In comparison with pre-war boats of "S" class, bulkheads were welded and fuel stowage at the expense of storage of part of fuel in specially arranged ballast tanks was increased. All boats of 1942 and 1943 Programmes had all-welded pressure hull, that has raised an operational diving depth to 110m. Majority of submarines had additional seventh TT out of a pressure hull. During or already after completion all ships have even more increased fuel stowage at the expense of improvement of ballast tanks construction: on 40 or 25t.

Naval service: Selene, Solent and Sleuth were converted to high speed underwater target after war. Hull and casing were streamlined, new higher capacity batteries, up-rated motors and "T" class propellers were installed. Maximal speed increased up to 12.5kts at periscope depth and 16.7kts surfaced. Sidon exploded caused by concentrated hydrogen peroxide used in experimental Mk 12 torpedo, later she was salvaged and used as target.
