Project history: Black Swan design became the result of corrections considering experience of the first years of war: the hull breadth was increased for compensation of the increased weight of armament, engine power was increased for speed keeping. According to Admiralty decision every sixth sloop should have minelaying equipment.

Naval service: Chanticleer was badly damaged by a torpedo from German submarine U515 18.11.1943 never repaired, used as a hulk Lusitania and sold for BU in 1946. Kite was sunk by a torpedo from German submarine U344 off Greenland 21.8.1944. Lapwing 20.3.1945 was sunk by a torpedo from German submarine U716 in Kola Bay. Lark was badly damaged 17.2.1945 by German submarine U968 in Kola Bay and never repaired. Woodpecker was damaged by torpedo from German submarine U764 20.2.1944 in Northern Atlantic and sunk 27.2.1944.
