Project history: Small submarine chasers in whaler hull intended to patrol, escort, anti-submarine duties. Can be used as decoys. They had good manoeuvrability but very poor seaworthiness and appeared not successful.

Modernizations: 1916, all: + 1 DCT (2)

1917 - 1918, all survived: may be + 1 DCT, DC stowage was presumably increased

Naval service: Blackwhale was mined 3.1.1918.
