Project history: Norwegian arctic patrol ship owned by GC Rieber Snipping, chartered and commissioned into Royal Navy service 23.6.2011 (through at least 2014: as a temporary replacement for the damaged HMS Endurance (A 171). Fitted with one 60-ton main offshore crane, one 12.5-ton crane for remotely operated vehicles, and one 25-ton A-frame utility crane. Carries 156 m³ of aviation fuel, 1512 m³ fuel oil, and 169 m³ of potable water. During a 2011 refit in Denmark, prior to commissioning, her helicopter landing deck was relocated to the ship's stern from its previous position atop the bridge: the vessel is not fitted with a helicopter hangar. Able to carry at least two Pacific 22 RIBs or one Mk5 LCVP plus a number of small ground vehicles and quad bikes for research or military purposes.
