Project history: These ships of 1940 Programme were designed under modified "Hunt" design created by Thornycroft as private initiative. At the expense of change of a hull form and insignificant increase in displacement it was possible to receive much more seaworthiness, unlike the Admiralty design, and ships received all originally scheduled armament. The unique censure was called lower, in comparison with the remaining ships of "Hunt" class, speed. Thornycroft ships were designed for 15000hp engine, and only direct requirement of Admiralty has forced builder to lift engine power to standard 19000hp. Only Brecon had anti-rolling tanks. It was on Brissenden not fitted originally, and the exempted hull volume was used for placing of an additional stock of fuel.
