Project history: Redesigned "Hunt I" with increased by 0.8m breadth for improvement of stability. In the remaining these ships corresponded to an original design. Part of ships never received stabilizers, and the exempted volume was used for placing of an additional stock of fuel.

Naval service: Heythrop was sunk 20.3.1942 by German submarine U652 at Sollum. Grove was sunk 12.6.1942 by German submarine U77 at Sollum. Puckeridge was sunk 6.9.1943 at Gibraltar by German submarine U617. Dulverton was sunk 13.11.1943 by German Hs 293 gliding bomb launched by Do 217 bomber at Leros. Southwold was mined 23.2.1942 at Malta by German mine; Hurworth 22.10.1943 was mined at Kalymnos Island by German mine.

Eridge was badly damaged by Italian explosive boats 29.8.1942, never repaired and used as a depot ship in Alexandria. Farndale was badly damaged by bombs in February, 1942 but subsequently repaired. Avon Vale in January, 1943 was badly damaged by an aircraft torpedo and subsequently repaired. Ships of class were reclassified to frigates in 1947.
