Project history: "Z" and "Ñà" classes were designed on the sample of destroyers of "S" class with new 114mm main guns (the pre-production sample was tested on Savage). For topweight reduction two twin Oerlikons were replaced by single. It was planed to equip these ships with a new DP fire  control system but this system was not ready to the moment of destroyers completing yet.

Letters of the English alphabet were out on "Z" class and ships of following class originally have been named casual enough, but already after the order they changed on beginning with a combination of letters "Ña".
