Project history: After a building of three flotillas (1928, 1929 and 1930 Programmes) in which leaders had the same sizes, as destroyers, Admiralty have come to conclusion about an inaccuracy of similar practice and necessity of return to larger leaders. It has been decided, that the leader of the 1931 Programme should become the improved Codrington with enlarged fuel stowage and by 0.5kts faster. Especially it was attended to decrease of tactical diameter: memories of disgusting manoeuvrability of Codrington were still fresh.
In the design armament of the leader differed from accepted for destroyers by additional main gun and two 76mm AA guns. Latter at a phase of designing were refused.
The leader of the 1932 Programme ("F") became an exact copy of "Å". At the expense of higher culture of bulding Faulknor, unlike Exmouth built on Navy Yard, exceeded contract speed on 1kt. (Exmouth on the contrary not get 1kt).
