Project history: The second series of the American Bogue class. 22 carriers from 24 built have been transferred on lend-lease to the RN, one to RCN (Nabob was manned by RCN but served in the RN) and one remained in the USN. In comparison with previous design, second series ships had strengthened artillery, increased flight deck and a smaller aviation petrol stowage. US 127mm Mk 12 guns with maximal elevation angle only 27° could not conduct AA fire.

Modernizations: 5 - 7.1945, Arbiter: + 4 x 1 - 40/56 Bofors Mk I/III

Naval service: Ameer, Atheling, Begum and Emperor were commissioned by US Navy and transferred to RN later. Slinger  was stricken by a mine 5.2.1944 and repaired till November, 1944. Nabob was damaged by a torpedo from German submarine U354 22.8.1944, laid up and never completely repaired. Thane was torpedoed by German submarine U482 15.1.1945 in a mouth of Clyde (10 people were lost), laid up and never repaired and never commissioned again.
