Project history: Cruisers of 1928-1929 Programmes had to resemble Exeter with 4th turret and lengthened forecastle.

Protection: There was 140mm armoured belt 2.7m-deep  protected machinery spaces. It was closed by 140mm bulkheads 4.2m in height. Magazines were protected by 146mm sides, 76mm transverse bulkheads and 76mm platform deck. Armoured deck over machinery was 70mm (57mm armour over 13mm plating) and over steering gear was 38mm thick.
