Project history: 9-gun sloop. Sir William Symonds design of 1844, based on Alecto class paddle sloops. Ordered as new vessel, using 'such parts of the frame of the original Rattler as feasible'. Engine was fitted at Maudslay's Yard, coppered at Woowich DYd.
