Project history: Laid down as a wooden screw corvette, Favorite's construction was well advanced when sge was approved for converson to an ironclad corvette. She was modified to have a straight stem, a rounded stern and a full length waterline belt. Hinged bulwarks fore and aft of battery gave ability to fire ahead and astern. Favorite was ship-rigged, with 1700m² sail area. She could make 10.5kts under sail and was a good seaboat but rolled heavily.
Ship protection: There was full length waterline belt extended from 0.9m under waterlaine to upper deck. The box battery with 114mm armour was 20m long.
Modernizations: 1869: was rearmed with 8 x 1 - 178/16 MLR Mk III, 2 x 1 - 160/16 64pdr 64cwt MLR
