Project history: 1st rate steam vessel, later 2nd class frigate, 6 guns. Sir William Symonds design of 1838. It was first intended to arm her with 22 guns (2 98pdr, 4 48pdr and 16 32pdr) but later middle deck guns were deleted and 48pdr guns were replaced by 68pdr.

Modernizations: 1845: - 2 x 1 - 254/11 98pdr 112cwt, 4 x 1 - 206/15 68pdr 95cwt; + 2 x 1 - 254/11 10'' 84cwt shell SBML, 4 x 1 - 204/13 68pdr 65cwt shell SBML
