Project history: 84-guns 2nd rate two-deckers. Design copied from Canopus (French prize Le Franklin, taken in 1798). This class went through a series of design modifications after the first ship was built.

Modernizations: 1861, Bombay: was converted to screw 81-guns 2nd rate two-decker with data as given in the table
