Project history: 70-gun 3nd rate two-deckers. William Symonds design of 1833. Boscawen was originally ordered as a member of 74-gun Armada class in 1812 but was reordered to new 80-gun design in 1817 and began building as such in 1826 but cancelled in 1831 and reordered again as 50-gun frigate Indefatigable in 1832 before finally reordered as a 70-gun ship.

Modernizations: 1850s, both: - 4 x 1 - 139/19 18pdr 10cwt; + 4 x 1 - 161/15 32pdr 42cwt SBML

Naval service: No significant events.
