Project history: New 91-gun ships. Surveyor's Department design of 1858. Seven ships were completed as ironclads, others were cancelled. Unstarted Blake and Pitt were also cancelled in 1862. Developed from 101-gun Duncan class with new timbering plan. Robust originally was ordered as 100-gun ship, then in 1858 she was altered to 91-gun. Wooden hull.
