Project history: Updated version of the wartime dock landing ship ordered in 1962, simply smaller version of contemporary USN Raleigh class. The principal advantage over the existing LSTs was the seaworthiness, range and capability.

Modernizations: late 1970s, both: - type 993 radar; + type 994 radar, UA-A1 ECM suite, 2x Corvus decoy RL
