Project history: A class
of 4 submarines was ordered in the Great Britain 9.3.1939.
Design was developed on a basis of British medium submarine of S class.
Turkish ships received from latter Vickers diesels, but differed in a little moderated
dimensions, smaller endurance and carried on one TT less. Saddle-tank hull.
With beginning of war all
submarines were requisitioned by the Great Britain and commissioned by
Royal Navy, however two first submarines right after completion were transferred
to Turkey. P615 was sunk 18.4.1943 by German
submarine U123 off Dakar. P614 was returned to Turkey 17.1.1946 and
commissioned after repair.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: No significant events.
