Project history: They were all US Gato, Balao and Tench class submarines. The ones transferred in 1948 were more or less unmodified, but Çanakkale and subsequent boats were semi- or fully streamlined, and most of them were brought up to the fully streamlined 'Fleet Snorkel' standard eventually. Cerbe was unique Turkish GUPPY IIA boat with original stepped sail.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: Dumlupınar was lost accidently in the Dardanelles on 4 April 1953. Second Dumlupınar was badly damaged in a collision 1.9.1976 and had to be beached. She was eventually repaired and put back into service.
