Project history: Type 209/1200. Similar to the Type 209 German-designed submarines serving in the Greek and several South American navies. A single hull, medium-sized design capable of diving to 250m. A total of twelve was orginally planned, with the first three built in Germany and later units in Turkey with German technical assistance.
Modernizations: 1999-2000, Atılay, Saldıray: - DR-2000 ECM suite; + Sealion ECM suite
2012-2016, Doğanay, Dolunay: + Ares-2N ECM suite, ability to launch Mk 48 Mod.6AT ADCAP torpedoes
Naval service: No significant events.
