Project history: Ordered in July, 1901, but building beginning has been delayed in connection with absence of payings and fluctuatings of customer in choice of type of boilers. Initially was named Abdul Hamid, renamed Hamidiye at launching. Design was developed in Elswick. On construction she was very close to Mecidiye, but in Turkish judgement, was built constructed better, had better stability and had more reliable, though obsolete boilers. One of smallest flushdecked cruisers, hight of freeboard amidships was 4.3m. On trials she made 22.216kts at 12401hp of short-term and 20kts at 9048hp for a long time, however because of high degree of machinery deterioration, in 1914 could made no more than 16kts.
Ship protection: Protective deck had 38mm flat part and 102mm slopes.
Modernizations: 1915: - 2 x 1 - 120/45, 4 x 1 - 47/50, 4 x 1 - 37/30
(1925-1926, Gölcük Tersane): was armed with: 2 x 1 - 149/42 SK L/45 C/09, 8 x 1 - 75/48 Canet, 2 x 1 - 450 TT (6), 70 mines
Naval service: 21.11.1912 Hamidiye was damaged by torpedo from Bulgarian torpedo boat Druzki.
30.10.1918 Hamidiye was laid up, but in 1925-1926 passed extensive repair and
modernization at Gölcük. In 1930 Vickers-Armstrong developed two variants of deeper
modernization of ship with conversion of boilers to oil-firing, raise of speed to 22-26kts
and full replacement of artillery, however for financial reasons they remained not realized.
Since 1940 Hamidiye was used as TS, in 1945 she was converted to training hulk. After exception from fleet inventory she a long time was laid up at Istanbul (in 1949-1951 she was a museum), sold for scrap only 10.9.1964 and broken up in 1966.
