Project history: This class were wooden-hulled barque-rigged sloops, wood- and copper-sheathed. They had two funnels, a straight stem and an overhanging stern.

Modernizations: 1870s, İskenderiye, Zuhaf, Utarit, Meriç: + 4 x 5 - 37/17 Hotchkiss

1879, İskenderiye, Zuhaf, Utarit, Meriç: were armed with 2 x 1 - 120/22 RK L/25 C/78, 2 x 1 - 76/19 12pdr BL, 2 x 1 - 25/42 Nordenfelt

1880, Beyrut, Seddülbahir: were armed with 2 x 1 - 120/22 RK L/25 C/78, 4 x 1 - 37/20 Hotchkiss

1903, Beyrut: - 2 x 1 - 37/20; + 2 x 1 - 25/42 Nordenfelt

Naval service: Some of their machinery and equipment after they were stricken was used in new gunboats after they were discarded 1894-1905.
