Project history: Successful enough small fast ships for actions in constrained harbour areas. Two first torpedo boats (Trad and Phuket) were ordered to CRDA in 1934, remaining 7 ships under the 1935 programme.
They were designed on basis of Italian Spica class torpedo boat, being as though their moderated version. 76mm artillery was delivered by Vickers-Armstrong for unification of an ammunition with already commissioned ships. On an TTs arrangement ships reminded German WWI-era torpedo boats: 2 twin banks were installed on centre line and 2 single TTs were installed aside behind a forecastle break. As well as the majority of Italian-built ships, on trials they exceeded designed speed: in particular, Phuket shown 32.34kts at 10000hp.

Modernizations: 1960s, Trad, Puket, Chunphorn: - 1 x 1 - 76/40, 4 x 1 - 8.80, 1 x 2 - 450 TT, 2 x 1 - 450 TT; + 2 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, presumably radar

1960s, Patani, Surasdra, Chandraburi, Rayong: - 1 x 1 - 76/40, 4 x 1 - 8.80, 2 x 1 - 450 TT; + 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, presumably radar

Naval service: Chonbury and Songkhla were sunk 17.1.1941 in battle at Ko-Chang by gunfire of French cruiser Lamotte-Picquett and avisos Amiral Charner, Dumont D`Urville, Tahure, Marne. Contrary to judgement spread in literature, Trad did not participate in battle and was not been lost.
