Project history: Modified versions of Netherlands Zvaardvis class ordered in 1980 despite protests from mainland China. These were the first new major warships built for Taiwan since 1949. Construction was delayed by financial difficulties at the builder. A highly automated design. A later order for two more (with option for a further pair) was turned down by the Netherlands government in 1984 due to Chinese pressure.
Modernizations: 2013, both: + ability to launch Sub Harpoon missiles instead of torpedoes and Mk 48 Mod.3/4 torpedoes (presumably up to 4 UGM-84 Sub-Harpoon Block I or II)
Naval service: No significant events.
