Project history: Former USN Cabildo class dock landing ships. Zhen Hai was acquired from US Navy. Chung Cheng was acquired in 1985 from a scrap dealer for cannibalization, but was found to be in good condition and was commissioned by ROCN.

Modernizations: 1992, both: + 1 x 4 Sea Chaparral SAM (16 MIM-72)

Naval service: No significant events.
