Project history: Chung Shan, Kang Shan, Lu Shan and Wen Shan were ex-USN 'TE' class DEs. They had higher bridges than the others which were ex-USN 'TEV' class DEs. Apart from that, they were almost identical. Wen Shan collided with ex-Walter B. Cobb whilst under tow to Taiwan on 17 April 1966, and the latter foundered four days later. She was replaced by Lu Shan. Taiwan rated them as frigates rather than APDs and used them accordingly.
Modernizations: ~1970, all except Tien Shan; 1974, Tien Shan: - deck cargo, 2 LCVP; + 1 x 1 - 127/38 Mk 30
1991, all were converted to offshore patrol vessels armed with 1 x 2 - 40/60 Mk 1 only, no LCVPs
Naval service: No significant events.
