Project history: The first of this class was built to Tacoma's design at their yard in Washington State, USA. The PSMM-5 design is developed from the US Asheville class FAC and is the same as the Korean Paek Ku class. There were thirteen planned from Taiwanese yards but they have been cancelled because of the unavailability of US or Italian missiles. The two ships built have been armed with the shorter-ranged Israeli Gabriel SSM, which Taiwan calls Hsiung Feng I.

Modernizations: 1990s, both: - 1 x 2 - 30/75; + 1 x 1 - 40/70 Bofors 564

Naval service: No significant events.
