Project history: Program approved in 1996; designed as replacements for the Hai Ou class, but with only 30 to be built. Design, developed by the ROCN's Ship Development Center, employs stealth techniques to reduce radar and infrared signatures and was enlarged in 1997 from the original 34.5m, 150t concept. A new stand-alone fire-control system for the missiles, with a single display and command console, is employed. The antiship missiles are mounted in pairs, athwartships behind sloped bulwarks to reduce radar signature.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: No significant events.
