Project history: Voted 1972, contracted 22.3.1973. Submarines were built jointly by Kockums and Karlskronavarv, Näcken and Neptun were launched by cranes.. They had Kollmorgen periscopes, two decks and 'tear-drop' hull shape. Data Saab IPDS system used two Censor 932 computers to give engine and tactical information. Attack submarines, A14 type.

Modernizations: 11.1988-4/1989, Näcken: AIP propulsion was installed (1030/1300t, 57.5x5.70x4.10m, additionally to main machinery 2 Stirling V4-275 AIP generators, 200hp, endurance submerged can be 14 days)

Naval service: Näcken was transferred on leasing to Danemark as Kronborg, returned in December 2014 but Swedish navy refused her recommission and she was laid up till scrapping in 2015-2016.
