Project history: YS 2000 (YS means Ytstridfartyg, surface combat ship). Funds were requested in 1993 but ships were ordered in pairs in October 1995, December 1996 and August 1999 (together with cancelled K36 Uddevalla). Originally it was planned to build 20 ships, reduced to 14 in 1996 and then 5. GRP hull and superstructure, carbon-reinforced. Ships can be fitted with Double Eagle Mk 3 anti-mine ROVs and SeaBat 7123 or Seefuchs mine countermeasures sonar. Plans to install ALECTO/KAS 2000 ASWRL were cancelled but they can be installed later.
Modernizations: 2012-2014, all: + 2 x 1 - 12.7/90, 4 x 1 - 7.6/90
Naval service: Visby, delivered to the navy 10.6.2002, became operational only in December 2009, Helsingborg and Härnösand in January 2010, Nyköping and Karlstad in September 2015.
