Project history: Last series of so-called "standard" destroyers and the first to which design really appreciable changes have been made, in comparison with  Ehrensköld class. Gun No2, earlier positioned between funnels, has been transferred to aft superstructure. Antiaircraft armament also was notably strengthened, having placed by rather small ships powerful battery consisting of 4 40mm and 4 20mm MGs.

The order for two first units have given out in 1941 according to usual practice to build the ships in pairs. After loss in September 1941 of Klas Uggla and Klas Horn for their replacement have given out the order for building of two more destroyers.

Modernizations: 1957-1959, Hälsingborg, Kalmar: - 1 x 2 - 40/60, 2 x 1 - 40/60, 4 x 1 - 20/68, 2 x 3 - 533 TT; + 3 x 1 - 40/70 M48, 1 x 5 - 533 TT, radars, sonar

1966, Visby; 1968, Sundsvall: were rebuilt as frigates: 1200t, 95.0oa x 9.20 x 3.80m; armament consisted of 2 x 1 - 57/60 M50, 1 x 4 - 375 Bofors ASWRL, 2 DCT, 20 mines, flight deck for a helicopter; Saturn, M24 radars, sonar

Naval service: All ships were re-rated as frigates in 1965.
