Project history: Former British Admiralty trawlers of Castle type, commissioned by Spanish Navy 11.4.1922. Wooden-hulled. Former British "Admiralty" trawler James Chapman (Castle type) in August, 1936 was armed by Nationalists at Cadiz and commissioned by them as Atlántico. Former British "Admiralty" trawler John Bateman (Castle type) with beginning of Civil war was armed at Cadiz by Nationalists and commissioned as Cantábrico. Former British "Admiralty" trawler John Clavell (Castle type) in July, 1936 was mobilized by Nationalists at El Ferrol. Former British "Admiralty" trawler Robert Davidson (Castle type) in 1936 was armed by Nationalists at Cadiz. Former Canadian "Admiralty" trawler TR31 (TR29 on other data) was armed by Nationalists in August, 1936. The former British "Admiralty" trawler George Greenfield (Castle type) in 1936 was armed at Cadiz by Nationalists. Former British "Admiralty" trawler Thomas Bailey (Mersey type) in 1936 was armed by Nationalists at Cadiz. Former British "Admiralty" trawler John Cooper (Castle type) was mobilized by Nationalists at Cadiz in August, 1936, receiving armament and crew from trawler Pemartín, received her name. Former British "Admiralty" trawler Cecil Coombes (ex-George Aiken, Castle type) was armed by Nationalists in September, 1936. Former British "Admiralty" trawler William Lambkin (Castle type) was armed by Nationalists at El Ferrol in August, 1936. Former British "Admiralty" trawler Walter Burke (Castle type) in 1936 was armed by Nationalists at Cadiz. Former British "Admiralty" trawler John Church (Castle type) was armed by Nationalists at El Ferrol in August, 1936. Former British "Admiralty" trawler George Derby (Castle type) in August, 1936 was armed by Nationalists at El Ferrol. Former Panama trawler Authorpe (ex-Canadian "Admiralty" trawler of TR type), sunk by mistake by aircraft of Nationalists at Alicante 6.2.1939. She was salvaged 12.10.1939, after repair commissioned by Navy 16.4.1942 as tug RR18. 6.7.1944 R18 was reclassified as patrol and renamed Alhucemas.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: Uad Ras and Uad Targa were lost on rocks 24.12.1930 and 1.9.1931 respectively. After beginning of Civil war Uad Lucus and Uad Muluya remained with Republican fleet. 9.10.1936 both ships were destroyed at Malaga by gunfire of Nationalists cruiser Almirante Cervera. Uad Martin in July, 1936 was transferred under control of Nationalists. Juan Ignacio 4.9.1937 was seriously damaged during battle against two republican submarines. Because of serious engine accident Pemartín was disarmed and put into repair. She was commissioned again in January, 1938 as Ruis de la Puente. Since November, 1936 Santa Urbana was used as minesweeper. 16.8.1936 Tiburón was attacked by Republican aircraft at Santander and surrendered. She was commissioned by Republicans under the same name but again captured by Nationalists during capture of Bilbao 19.6.1937. Txit-Ona was seriously damaged by Republican aircraft 10.9.1936, later she was disarmed and returned to owner. 6.12.1936 after mutiny onboard Virgen del Carmen came over to Republicans, left to Bilbao and was commissioned by Basque fleet as armed vessel Donostia. In October, 1937 Donostia escaped to La Pallaise (France). In May, 1938 she returned to El Ferrol and was transferred to former owner.
