Project history: Patrols for Spanish Sahara, designed since 1943. 12 ships of the class (Rigel, Aldebarán, Sirius, Vega, Antares, Arcturus, Canopus, Polar, Régulo, Altair, Cástor, Póllux) were ordered 30.3.1944 and preparation works were started on SECN (Cartagena). After WWII Spanish shipbuilding industry had strong shortage of materials because of international isolation. As a result all class was cancelled, and laid down Rigel and Aldebarán were re-ordered as minesweepers Guadiaro and Tinto. Later new patrols Procyón and Pegaso were built under renewed design.
