Project history: Small torpedo boats, which building in number of 25 ships was authorized by the law from 7.1.1908.
Design was developed with assistance of Vickers on the basis of French
Cyclone class torpedo boats made by Normand, differing from the latter by
turbine machinery. They actually became outdated already by the moment of commission of lead ships, therefore
in 1912-1921 only 22 boats were completed, and building of three latter was cancelled in 1919.
First seven ships had triple-shaft machinery, remaining
had twin-shaft. Ships survived till 1936 were used mainly as ships of providing of combat training.
Torpedo boats T-14, 16, 19 and 20 were converted for minelaying, but never really
were used for this purpose.
Modernizations: 1930s, T-14, 16, 19, 20: + mines
Naval service: After beginning of Civil war T-3, 4, 14, 17, 20, 21 remained in Republic fleet, and T-2, 7, 9, 16 and 19 have got to Nationalists. Nationalists torpedo boat T-2 was lost 13.9.1937 on stones at Santander. Republican torpedo boat T-3 left 20.10.1937 Gijon to French port Le Verdon where remained, in 1938 she was sold for BU at Bordeaux (officially stricken only in 1941). Remaining Republican ships of this class in the end of war have got to Nationalists at Cartagena in faulty (T-14 and 17) or foundered at Portman near Cartagena (T-20 and 21) condition. Two first ships were repaired, last two were salvaged and sold for scrap 8.6.1940.
