Project history: Fast torpedo gunboats (torpedo cruisers). To the First World War beginning they have become outdated. After modernization Marqués de la Vitoria became one-funneled, María de Molina received two close arranged funnels and only Álvaro de Bazán kept an original two-funneled outline profile.

Ship protection: Only CT had 152mm sides.

Modernizations: 1917-1918, María de Molina, Marqués de la Victoria: - 2 x 1 - 120/35, 4 x 1 - 42/42; + 8 x 1 - 57/42 Nordenfelt, both were reboilered; former received two closely spaced funnels, latter single funnel.

1917-1918, Álvaro de Bazán: - 2 x 1 - 120/35, 2 x 1 - 42/42; + 6 x 1 - 57/42 Nordenfelt

Naval service: No significant events.
