Project history: Small cruiser specially built for colonial service. Originally she was designed for Hontoria 140/35mm and Krupp 105/32mm guns but really was completed with Vickers guns.

Ship protection: Only 50mm protective deck.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: During First World War Extremadura served as harbour ship in Mexico.
