Project history: Ordered in 1996 as replacements for US-built LSTs, project STEM 1400 designed in cooperation with Ingalls. Have 60t, 16.8x4.05m bow ramp, docking well for up to 4 LCMs. Stern door 15.6m wide, 8m high) swings down to form 7m 66t capacity vehicle ramp. Two 25t cranes and two 22t elevators are fitted. Originally were to have two 8-cell Barak SAM VLSs and twin 40mm OTO-Melara Compact and 30mm Goalkeeper CIWS, but all these systems were omitted.
