Project history: Development of submarine Akula. Single-hulled, pressure hull had no watertight bulkheads. Project of I. G. Bubnov. It was supposed to equip submarines with two diesels on 1320hp, that would allow to ensure 18kts surface speed. However at completion various available diesels have been used. Besides, boats differed among themselves by artillery. Under project it was provided to arm they by 1 57mm and 1 37mm guns.
Yorsh group submarines were ordered among Bars class submarines. Proceeding from experience of service of Black Sea submarine Krab, during building they were converted to minelayers. Differed from a prototype by presence of mine tubes, central ballast tank volume and absence of stern TTs. Single-hulled, pressure hull has no watertight bulkheads.
Utka group submarines differed from a prototype by presence of bilge keels and device, allowing to lay down on a hard ground. Single-hulled, without watertight bulkheads.
Yaz ` was never completed in the absence of engines, and scrapped in 1925. Forel ` was never completed in the absence of diesels. She staid in port up to 1951 and was scrapped.

Utka and Burevestnik have been withdrawn by Whites to Bizerte where they were broken up. Orlan, Gagara and incomplete Pelikan and Lebed ` were scuttled by Whites off Sevastopol and Odessa. Orlan and Pelikan were salvaged and broken up in the mid-1920s. Edinorog foundered 25.2.1918 being towed in strong ice in Gulf of Finland. Ugor`27.3.1920 was sunk by ice drift on Neva, salvaged and 23.9.1924 sunk by flood at Kronshtadt, salvaged again and broken up.
B-3 collided with battleship Marat 25.7.1935 and sunk, later salvaged and scrapped. Rabochiy was sunk 22.5.1931 after collision with submarine Krasnoarmeets. In 1933 she was raised and handed over on demolition.
