Project history: Test platform for new weapons, sensors and systems. Presumably submarine was laid down as test carrier for Skif system (bottom-based autonomus torpedo-missile systems, remotely or autonomously controlled), Skif's containers would be launched from submerged submarine onto the sea bottom. In 1996 building was suspended at 40% complete level, but 2001 building was restarted (in Severodvinsk from 2003), officially submarine was laid down again 19.3.2006. This time submarine presumably is used for experiments with new system of autonomous attack nuclear-powered strategic-range submarine robots named 'Status-6'. These robots can carry nuclear warhead up to 100Mt and/or also usual torpedoes and mines for naval combat operations, becoming really superfast superdeep combat submarines with no crew. Presumably Status-6 drone has 10000nm range with 55kts speed at 1000m deep, becoming absolutely unattainable for all modern and future anti-submarine weapons, except nuclear deep charges.

Modernizations: Not known.

Naval service: No significant events.
