Project history: Fleet minesweepers intended for reconnaissance minesweeping in distant regions and anti-mine support of large surface ships squadrons. Owing to it the basic requirement to the project was 20kts speed, that has predetermined turbine machinery.
Designing works were begun in 1938. In 1939-1941 on No370 and No363 yards in Leningrad and No201 in Sevastopol 20 ships were laid down. Because of a delay of turbines and boilers availability to a beginning of war any of them have not been completed before war. In 1942-1943 it was possible to complete 2 ships. After war 15 ships were completed under project 73K with replacement of turbines by diesels, new sensors, strengthened AA armament and new anti-mine equipment.

Hulls of incomplete T-451 Ivan Borisov and T-452 Sergey Shuvalov were commissioned by Navy in December 1943 as non self-propelled landing barges and used in this role till 1944.

Modernizations: late 1940s, T-250 Vladimir Polukhin, T-251 Vasiliy Gromov: - mechanical minesweeping gear; + PT, MT-2 mechanical, TEM-1 magnetic, 2x BAT-2 acoustic minesweeping gear, Giuys-1M, Zarnitsa, Rym radars, Tamir-5 sonar

Naval service: No significant events.
