Project history: Designed in 1942 as "seagoing minesweeping boat" (project 253) in variants in steel and wooden hulls. However then the design has been corrected under building conditions in beleaguered Leningrad. Transition to rectilinear hull form became the main change. Project 253L ("Leningrad") was approved 14.4.1943. Because of displacement usually ships of project 253L received a nickname "hundred-tonners".
Ships concerned to two series: 34 ships of type MT-1 (pr. 253L) and 58 ships of type MT-2 (pr. 253L-P). Latter differed by more powerful generators, allowing to use magnetic sweeps (series MT-1 minesweepers could use it only in pair).

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: T-353 was lost 8.9.1944 on a mine in Narva Bay. T-377 was lost 5.12.1944 as a result of accident in Gulf of Riga. T-387 was sunk 28.11.1944 by German submarine U679 off Paldiski. T-379 23.10.1944 was sunk by unknown cause in harbour of Tallinn; subsequently she was salvaged and commissioned again as TS. T-355 and T-357 were lost on mines after war: former 20.8.1945 in Southern Baltic, latter 12.6.1945 in Danzig Bight.
