Project history: Successor of light frigate of the project 1159. Dagestan was built under modified design with VLS for 8 Kalibr-Nk missiles but without planned Poliment SAM. Diesel and gas turbines can be clutched with shafts in different variants: all to two shafts, only diesel or only turbines or diesel on one shaft and gas turbine on another. Ships carry sonobuoy receiver/processor for working with ASW aircraft. Planned ASW armament (2 twin 533mm torpedo tubes and 1 RBU-6000 ASW rocket launcher) was not installed.
Modernizations: 2016, Tatarstan: + MR-5PV Gals radar, MG-757 Anapa-M sonar
Naval service: No significant events.
